Happy Valentine’s Day… or as we like to call it in our house “Happy Anniversary, Ed, of Your Hernia Surgery, and Aren’t You Glad You Don’t Have to Do That Again?” Day.
Yes, Ed had a hernia repaired a year ago today. It was scheduled. For Valentine’s Day. It was our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple.
Now, I’m not overly soppy and sentimental. However, I never dreamed on the second of only two Valentine’s Days in my life that I’d had a sweetie (Ed was the sweetie both years) that I would spend the morning sitting in a waiting room with my mom waiting for my husband to get out of surgery, and spend the rest of the day filling ice packs, administering medicine, getting him anything he needed, and being very, very quiet as he slept.
Well, I guess it’s more appropriate to say I’m not overly soppy and sentimental about Valentine’s Day. I’m feeling strangly soppy and sentimental about the anniversary of his surgery. Go figure.
As for this year? We’re staying home. And that’s just fine with me. 🙂
