Weekly Winners: May 2-May 9

Shots from Callaway Gardens and a festival last Sunday.

Butterflies in the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center

Gorgeous flowers in Mr. Cason’s Vegetable Garden

At the John A. Sibley Horticultural Center

In the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel

In the Callaway Brothers Azalea Bowl

This one is freakishly overexposed, but I LOVE it.

And at a festival last Sunday…

These kittens. (Read their story here.)

This Father Goose, keeping watch over Mother Goose, who was keeping her eggs warm.

He was serious about his duties. I don’t know that this is a particularly “winning” photo, but I love it.

Absolutely beautiful! How do you get yor pictures to be so crisp? I wanna know your secrets!!

Marylins last blog post..Weekly Winners #20!

Hi, Marylin. Thanks so much. πŸ™‚

As to the crispness, it’s a combination of things, I think. First, since I don’t have any kids to interrupt my photo-taking, most of the time, I can take a zillion shots if I need to. πŸ™‚ Second, most of the time these days, I use manual focus, so I can “hone in” on exactly what I want to. This is easier to do since a) I don’t have kids (see my first point) and b) at least most of the time, I’m not trying to photograph the moving targets that kids are. πŸ™‚ Third, I have a fairly steady hand, which helps I guess.

Also, re: the manual focus, practice, practice, practice… I’m getting to the point where I CAN “shoot” moving targets and manually focus at the same time, with a fairly good success rate.

More than you wanted to know? πŸ˜‰

    Thanks again for the compliments.

Oh my goodness!!! That little kitten is so adorable! Not sure if I should go read the story. Is it a sad one because I won’t be able to handle it?

I really love the photo of the waterfall too. Just beautiful!!

Karen, it’s a happy story… Well, it started out sad, but it’s happy. I promise! πŸ™‚

And thanks for the compliments. πŸ™‚

  3. Laura

I love them all! You have such an eye for detail. πŸ™‚

That kitten picture rocks…it’s so touchable and just so, um, cute (for lack of a better word!)
I’ll try to get in on the wedding stories blog carnival…we’ll see! If I do miss out I’ll still be tuning in to read yours. πŸ™‚

Thank you, Laura! I’ve always had an “eye for detail” in my professional life, but didn’t know until fairly recently that it carried over to anything creative. I was glad to learn this. πŸ™‚

I hope you’ll be able to do the wedding stories carnival, but I understand if you can’t. You’re working hard finishing the work of growing Carly. πŸ™‚

  4. Amy

Can you share some of your talent with me please? Your photos are amazing, all of them. The butterflies are my favorites this week!

    Amys last blog post..Weekly Winners

Thank you, Amy! πŸ™‚ And I’ll share anything of mine you want.

  5. tanabata

These are all fabulous photos but I especially love the colourful stained glass or the kitten one is adorable and the butterflies are pretty amazing too… I can’t choose!

Ha! I love all of those, too. I guess that’s why we post more than one picture. πŸ™‚ Thanks for the compliment!

  6. Karen MEG

Stunning, Rebecca… that cathedral is amazing, but that little kitten is priceless!

Thanks so much, Karen. That kitten reminds me of the old posters with a kitten saying “Hang in there.” Or am I the only one?

  7. Annie

These are so awesome, as always! So beautiful!

I love the last one too, of the goose looking up over the wall. It made me laugh out loud – it’s great!

Annies last blog post..Weekly Winners, 5/11/08

Thanks so much, Annie. πŸ™‚ I’m glad the goose made you laugh. He amuses me, too.

  8. Shannon

Loving all your shots. My weekly winners are up. I need to get a copyright on my pictures.

Thanks so much, Shannon! πŸ™‚ I just looked at your winners. They’re nice!

  9. maggies mind
