Lisa at Lisa’s Chaos is hosting Fun Monday this week. I’m not sure exactly what Fun Monday IS or who started it and why.
But this week’s topic, quirks, got my attention, so I thought I’d play.
A quirk is defined as a peculiarity of action, behavior, or personality; mannerism. Yes, it would be easier to tell you what’s NORMAL about me. π I’ll give listing some of my quirks a shot, though. Let’s see.
I can see things such as a cool shadow on the wall…
…but not the fact that a friend has had 8 inches cut off her straight hair.
Yeah. Very observant. NOT! π
I can’t stand the sound of those tape dispensers one uses to tape up moving boxes. This has a lot to do with the fact that we moved every few years when I was a kid. But I don’t know of anyone else who actually shudders when hearing one.
I can discuss all sorts of gross things, but I gag if someone even TALKS about putting more than two marshmallows in his or her mouth. (I like marshmallows, though.)
I know a TON about pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and child rearing, but we don’t have kids or plan on having any.
There are lots more, but I’d like to keep a shred of dignity. π
So tell me. What are some of YOUR quirks?
I find your motherhood information interesting and than not to have children. That tape sound is an annoyance that comes with the dispenser.
It is a bit ironic, isn’t it? π
Fun subject!
I don’t know if I have quirks actually! I am normal and BORING. But I enjoyed reading about yours. I must have SOME quirks though? I’ll think about it some more… maybe I’ll ask my husband. I’m sure he’ll come up with something. π
Did your husband have any suggestions? Last night I made the “mistake” of asking my husband what foods I don’t like. I couldn’t get him to stop. π
mmm.. I don’t like to eat sandwiches if they aren’t cut into triangles..
That is interesting. Did you pick up this quirk as a child? I loved when my mom cut my sandwich into triangles.
I can see things in shadows also. I think it is because of my photography background…I tend to see light and shadow a bit differently than most people!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who sees strange things. π
Are you kidding me? I don’t see your acute observations quirky at all…if it is, count me in too then.
My FM is posted…come on over!!
Hi, Annie. It’s nice to receive the affirmation. And it was amazingly comforting to learn that my quirks aren’t any big deal. (Have you SEEN some of the other people’s quirks? π Heh.)
What a great topic! I think my quirks would take days to list. Here’s one: I always set the alarm clock for something like 6:11 or 7:36. Just weird!
Nah… not weird. I’ve heard of several people who do that. π
I don’t have any quirks (*burp*). Sorry.
Reading this made Ed laugh out loud. And I thought it was pretty funny, too.
I’m so with you about not being able to see the haircut for the shadows on the wall. Funny about the tape dispenser, but it makes sense.
I literally squeal when I hear the sound. Just sayin’.
I’m growing to reach the point of shuddering when I hear a tape dispenser as well. I also moved a few times…but that’s not why.
I have, for the past year and a half, been taping one child, or the other’s, diaper shut because they take them off in bed. I’m so sick of taping diapers!! (Yes, I said TAPE.THE.DIAPERS.)
Hey, you do what you gotta do. And I’ve heard of a LOT of people who do it.
I can’t stand the sound of shuffling feet.
That’s a quirk I’ve never heard of before. Thanks for stopping by! π
How FUN that you decided to participate today and share a few of your βquirksβ β¦ I so relate to the first (about noticing what others donβt and missing the obvious) for this is a quirk of mine too! Iβve played at Small Reflections this morning. Hope you can find time to drop by ;–)
Hugs and blessings,
I’m glad I’m not the only one. π
Captain Obvious, you are not!
I love the sound of the tape in those tape rollers but I can also take nails on a chaulk board!
My Quirks:
I like to totally gross out my 15 year old and embarrass him.
I have to have the closet door shut at night or else the boogie man might get me. I know silly for a 32 year old.
Since seeing I am Legend I have to have be able to see the light in the bathroom.
I have to have my curtains and blinds open in the morning and through the day.
Fingerprints are not allowed on glass in the house or car!
I have to pop almost every joint in the morning before I get out of bed.
Shannon, reading your quirks about lights reminded me of something. In the 1st grade I learned about President Lincoln’s assassination. For YEARS I couldn’t walk down the hall from my bedroom to the living room… It was approximately 10 feet (if that), but I was afraid if I walked I would get shot from behind. (We moved after my fifth grade year.) I still have that problem on occasion.
Ok I don’t know if this is a quirk…I qualify every comment I make to other people but I have a diarrhea mouth when it comes to making a comment to my wife. Needless to say, I always end up saying, “I’m sorry babe…”
EEK! I can identify.
This has been a fun topic today! I like the fun shadows quirk – I think if we all stopped and looked at things like that we would see how many cool things surround us all the time.
I think you’re right, Heather. I agree. This was so much fun… a good way for me to start with Fun Monday.
The tape thing is a definite quirk – but the marshmallows? OMG…I’m tempted to go stuff my face and send you a photo! LOL!
It’s all fun and games until someone throws up. π
oh my, I could go on and on! I have so many quirks.
I love your list of quirks! It’s so fun getting to ‘know’ you even better!
Thank you, Jenny. I was glad to share them. π
The tape thing sets the hairs on my neck a quiver too, shiver. The marshmallow thing is funny though. π
We should start a support group. π
I completely agree with the tape one! lol
Thanks for sharing! π
You’re welcome. π
The marshmallow thing makes sense. Some poor child choked stuffing too many marshmallows in her mouth.
Yup… and I can totally see how it could happen. Heck, if you get ONE marshmallow in there the “wrong” way you could be in deep trouble.
yep, you are pretty quirky…I, too, am an expert on pregnancy and birth, but I have never been pregnant…we adopted our children!!!
I have a “sister” in this then. π
The big thing that grosses me out is sauerkraut. Ew!
Tape is pretty noisy! I can see that.
Thanx for playing! This was fun, no?
Lisa, it really was fun. π
I’m with you on the observation skills. As an artist I see minute details…but never when appropriate. π
When you use the word “artist” it sounds so much nicer. π
Being the wife of military man, and being told to MOVE OUT every 2 years, I got to hating the sound of that tape gun dispenser, too.
No fun at all. π¦
One good thing about most women is if they do have a radical change in hairstyle and you don’t mention it, sooner or later they will bring up the topic themselves.
My roommate surely brought it up… nicely. I felt SO BAD!
The tape dispenser quirk is very interesting…..
Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome, Nikki. π
Just like how could I remember every bit of a conversation with all facial expressions…and the clothes worn that moment…yet forgets birthdays and anniversaries?! LOL
Have a nice week!
Um… yeah… I resemble that quirk. π
Interesting quirks. I think it’s good we all have a few. Otherwise the world would be chock full of people just like me (or maybe like you). Thanks for stopping by.
I agree. Quirks are good… π
Okay…. the marshmallow thing is kind of weird.
A person just never knows the sorts of things that will set her on edge… π
I DESPISE that tape sound. It gives me the willies.
You already know many of my quirks. π
Do you know that I can’t stand the feel of cotton balls?
That I have to put on sock, sock, shoe, shoe, or it makes me nuts?
That I can’t stand biting into an apple, but I love to bite into a peach?
One thing I’ve learned from this post is that I’m not the only person who hates this sound. (There are others besides the two of us.)
I think I knew about the cotton balls, and I knew you don’t like biting into an apple, but I’m not sure about the other things… I generally put both my socks on and then the shoes, too.
